Bottom Boards: what to know
Solid bottom boards are the traditional choice. Screened (mesh) bottom boards improve ventilation and allow varroa mites to fall through the mesh for monitoring. Varroa boards slide in below the mesh to catch mites for counting. Now that varroa has arrived in Australia, screened floors are increasingly recommended.
